Njit Roommate Agreement

The NJIT Residential Living Office, with the support of Disability Support Services (DSS), provides reasonable accommodations to students with documented disabilities on campus. Students requesting reasonable accommodation for academic accommodation on campus should indicate the need on their housing application or contact Disability Support Services at 973-596-5417 or by email dss@njit.edu. The student applicant must have all the necessary and supporting documents submitted by a treating professional. Requests for accommodation will be reviewed by appropriate medical, psychological and/or professional staff. When an application is processed, the student is informed of his status and, if approved, receives an appropriate housing allowance based on the available free places in the apartment at that time. As a member of a community, you have the opportunity to create a set of standards for your floor. These standards serve as agreements on how all members of the soil community will interact with each other. Standards can change as your community grows and changes, but it`s important to recognize that if there are problems on the ground, it`s the responsibility of field members and room staff to help you find a solution. Together, you and the members of your floor can create a positive, supportive and enjoyable living experience in the dormitories.

Each spring semester, residents have the opportunity to participate in the room selection process for the following academic year. Students who choose to participate in room selection have the opportunity to choose their own rooms and roommates. NJIT`s Residence Life staff is committed not only to helping you develop intellectually and emotionally, but also to helping you grow and learn in your community. A big part of your daily life experience is interacting with your roommate/roommate. The relationship between roommate and Suitemate is one of the most important relationships you will build in your college career. During the first week of classes, students on each floor make agreements about how they will treat and interact with each other in their community. Soil communities then meet weekly to discuss their issues with community standards and upcoming events, and share other relevant information. Community standards for soils continue to evolve as community interaction shapes and reshapes your understanding and expectations. Students in the upper class receive their room information and their roommate in mid-July. Emotional Support Animal (ESA) Guidelines for NJIT Students in Residence An Emotional Support Animal (ESA) is an animal prescribed or otherwise documented by a health professional as part of the treatment or recovery of a person with a disability. Students who wish to bring an ESA to live with them in NJIT campus accommodation as part of their treatment/recovery should contact Disability Support Services (DSS) and provide all necessary support materials.

All applications for ESAs in residences on the NJIT campus will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis by the DSS in consultation with the NJIT Office of Living in Residence. If a problem develops between you and your roommate/roommate, your AR can make suggestions or spend time with you and your roommate/roommate to resolve the issue. Once you have taken possession of your room key or room combination, you will be responsible for your room fee for the academic year. NJIT community members and their guests can use restrooms that match their gender identity. For suites at Cypress, Honors, Laurel, Greek Village and Oak, please pay attention to your roommate/roommate and discuss bathroom use to prevent problems from developing later.

Residence Life will inform you of the name of your roommate(s) when room cover letters are sent in mid-July. When you move in, you will be asked to enter into a colocation agreement. If you have a problem with your roommate, we recommend that you go back through your roommate contract. Your resident assistant is at your disposal if you have a problem. When you move into your room, it`s important to spend some time getting to know your roommate(s). Immediately discuss expectations, establish ground rules, and start a dialogue about how your space will be used. It`s also a good time to close a roommate/Suitemate deal. The guest and visit policy is currently suspended due to COVID (Fall 2021)3. A student can carry alcoholic beverages through the common areas to their room as long as they are in their original closed container. It is assumed that a different container from the original closed container means that the person has consumed or will consume the beverage in a room other than one. Persons 21 years of age or older are allowed to possess and consume alcoholic beverages, but only in the single rooms of students aged 21 and over. After check-out, ROs and RCs pass through each room to assess damage and cleaning costs. This assessment, plus any damage in the common area, will be debited from the student`s account. Residence Life staff may inspect your room several times a semester in addition to the annual inspection by the state fire marshal. Residents will be informed in advance of these inspections. .
